I’m writing this after surviving day one of Storm Joseph (side note: who is naming these storms, and how do I apply for that job?). January has finally packed up and left, and yes—it went out soaking wet.
Now we’re in the last month of winter, which in Cádiz means one very important thing: Carnaval is here.
Not easing in. Not warming up. Full-blown Carnaval, officially kicking off on Valentine’s Day Weekend—because nothing says romance like satire, wigs, and people singing at you in the street.
And as always, we’ve got a few things going on you won’t want to miss:
Highlights for February:
- Carnaval Walking Tours in Cádiz 🎭
If you’ve ever wondered why everyone is singing, laughing, and mildly heckling politicians, this is the tour for you. History, humor, and plenty of Carnaval context—no costume required (but encouraged).

And just when you think the fun might slow down—don’t worry. The moment Carnaval wraps up, Festival de Jerez steps in with flamenco, dance, and enough passion to keep winter interesting. Cádiz hands the baton to Jerez, and the party simply changes shoes.

Fun Fact: Did you know, Día de Andalucía marks the 1980 referendum for Andalusian autonomy—and in schools, it’s celebrated the best way possible: with food.
