Feliz December

Hi Reader

We’re on Holiday! 🎄

Tourist season has wrapped up, and we’ve slipped into “zambomba + polvorón” mode. I’m also sneaking off to London for a hit of Christmas lights and a bit of shopping… though I’m already shivering at the thought of the cold!

That said, we’ll be back in action for private tours at the end of the month. If you’ve got family or friends visiting and want to explore the best of our local towns—on foot or hopping between tapas—just give me a shout.

Book your tour today and make the most of winter in Andalusia!— flavors, festivals, and fun await!

Our 2026 calendar is also out for all the big tours, so let us know if you want a copy.

The Company Room will be running two tastings this month, and if you’re looking for a festive gift, we have gift cards for tastings too!

As for what’s going on in the area:

  • Zambombas in Jerez
  • Live Nativity Shows in Rota
  • Lighting and music shows in Cádiz

And don’t forget to reserve your Christmas lunches and dinners early—spots fill up fast!

Only in Spain do supermarket aisles turn into full-on polvorón paradises by November 🎄🍪
It’s officially almond-scented, sugar-dusted Christmas… and yes, I’m already stocking up.
Check out our insta story and if you are still curiouse and want to know the story behind polvorones — where they come from, why they’re such a big deal, and which ones to try?
I’ve got a full breakdown in our blog below.

EVENTS WITH DISCOVER COSTA DE LA LUZ

What’s Coming Up

No official events this month—but don’t let that fool you. I’m gearing up for a full calendar of experiences in 2026, built around the biggest local festivals and celebrations in Cádiz, Jerez, and the surrounding towns. Think flamenco fashion shows, cheese festivals, tuna fairs, patio tours, zambombas, Christmas lights, vendimia… basically all the good stuff worth planning a trip around.

Here are three tours already mapped out:

  • Pasarela Flamenca – Jerez (22–25 January)
  • Carnaval Tour – Cádiz (February)
  • Patio Tours – El Puerto de Santa María (May)

I’m trying to be more proactive this year (translation: organized before the caffeine runs out) and start booking things earlier. If you’re interested in any of these events—or want to build a big group trip with family, friends, or your whole command—just let me know. I’ll send you the full 2026 schedule and all the details you need.

🎉 HOLIDAY / FESTIVO – DICIEMBRE 🎉

December is stacked with joy, food, family, and enough fiestas to keep even the most seasoned Spaniard on their toes. And being true locals… yes, we celebrate all of them to the fullest extent.

📜 Friday, December 6th – Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución): A day off to celebrate Spain’s modern constitution — in reality, a perfect excuse for a long breakfast and a stroll around town.

🙏 Sunday, December 8th – Immaculate Conception (Inmaculada Concepción): A beautiful religious celebration with plenty of tradition behind it. For most Spaniards? It’s the perfect excuse to kick off the puente (long weekend), decorate the house, hit the Christmas markets, or start stress-eating turrón. The holiday spirit officially begins here.

🦃 Tuesday, December 24th – Spanish-Style Thanksgiving / Nochebuena: One of Spain’s most important family nights. Tables groan under the weight of seafood, jamón, and desserts, kids go wild, and somewhere an uncle is definitely opening the “good” sherry. (Think American Thanksgiving)

🎁 Wednesday, December 25th – Christmas Day (Navidad): A day for family, leftovers, and sweet treats; in Spain, the big gifts come later, so relax and enjoy the food.

🥂 Wednesday, December 31st – Nochevieja Ring in the new year the Spanish way with 12 grapes at midnight, cava, dancing, and a little chaos.

What's Going On in the Area

🥁💃Zambombas in Cádiz Province

Experience one of Andalusia’s most joyful Christmas traditions!
The Zambombas de Jerez bring flamenco, festive spirit, and community together, filling the city with carols, wine, and rhythm every Advent weekend. You can’t miss this fantastic tradition — and now it’s not just in Jerez, but all over the province of Cádiz! With these many Zambombas you have no excuse to miss one :D

✨🎄💡Christmas lights in Cádiz Province

Málaga may be famous worldwide for its holiday light shows, but Cádiz province has plenty of festive sparkle too! Cádiz, San Fernando, El Puerto de Santa María, Chiclana, and Puerto Real have kicked off the season with spectacular lights, turning streets and plazas into a festive wonderland.

If you missed the initial lighting, don’t worry — Cádiz offers a daily light and sound show at 19:00, 20:00, and 21:00 in Plaza de San Juan de Dios, and wandering the city lets you admire 65 illuminated streets and 22 plazas this season.

👶🐑🌟Live Nativity Scenesin Cádiz Province

Live Nativity Scenes Across Cádiz: One of Cádiz’s most unique Christmas experiences are the Belenes Vivientes. The white villages of Cádiz will bring the Nativity to life, recreating the streets, trades, and traditions of 2,000 years ago. Wander charming alleys and whitewashed houses as these magical performances transport you to the heart of a historic Judean village — a truly special way to celebrate the season.

🎄 Christmas Markets in Cádiz Province

Okay, I’ll admit it — nothing here quite beats the magical markets of northern Germany (I mean, who doesn’t love sipping glühwein while shopping?), but Cádiz province has some lovely festive markets worth visiting.

  • Cádiz Capital: A full market sets up in Plaza de la Catedral, and you’ll also find one at Plaza de San Antonio, complete with an ice-skating rink.
  • Jerez de la Frontera: The Mercado Navideño in Plaza del Arenal features typical seasonal products and holiday cheer.
  • Vejer de la Frontera: One of the most photographed markets in the province, held in Plaza de España, with local crafts and flamenco performances.
  • Conil de la Frontera: Located at the Torre de Guzmán, this market offers local crafts along with storytelling sessions and fun workshops.
  • Olvera: Spread across Llana, Victoria streets, and Plaza de Andalucía, the market includes workshops, zambombas, and even a shopping rally.

So even if you can’t make it to Germany, there’s plenty of festive charm to enjoy right here in Cádiz.
